I've painted, drawn and made things all my life. As a child I made Airfix models, whittled things, made marks on anything and knocked chunks out of wood in an attempt to create something.  At senior school I won a prestigious national sculpture prize for a life size model of my gran.  Whereabouts unknown.

After leaving college, I like many artists had to work in other trades to supplement my desire to create.   However I was very fortunate, at twenty five I got a position of artist within a nationally recognised studio in the UK.  It was here that I really learnt to paint under the guidance of a talented mentor.

Assorted jobs followed in addition to successfully selling painting and producing public artwork (paintings and mosaics).  There was also a time as artist in residence.  Interestingly the range of jobs I have had has kept me grounded, broadened my experience of life and added to my creativity.

Following a break from painting due a personal loss I have started painting again and put together this website, which is really a pictorial record of my interests.

After an absence from painting I'm back on board - its definitely not like riding a bike you've got to really work to get the hand and eye co-ordination working again.   Starting on small pictures I've been concentrating on simple mark making and colour - I'm very pleased.  'Phlox and Daisies', 'Turning Skewbald', 'Pensive Skewbald', 'Washday Day' and assorted Jockeys Sketch pictures. Gardens Gallery exhibition.

  A LIFE IN PAINTING     An exhibition of figurative paintings by Cheltenham based artist Tim Turton.   THE GARDENS GALLERY, CHELTENHAM.   Wednesday 21st October to Tuesday 26 th  October.   This exhibition covers a range of subjects – Cotswold Landscapes, Still Life, Drawings, Horse Racing, Seascapes, Modern Dance, Still Life and on show will also be my portrait for NHS heroes.  Work will be for sale including framed and unframed paintings and drawings.   I predominately work in acrylic and love the versatility of this medium.  I have been described as a painter’s painter. Paintings for the exhibition.

I've been preparing hard for the exhibition in Winchcombe. As I look through my work and create more paintings I've realised that the 'feel' of a paintings starts with drawing and the subject. If I'm painting an energetic race scene the initial drawing is bold and the subsequent mark making, tone and colours reflect this.  If I'm painting a gentle scene then conversely more time is spent refining the initial drawing so that the mark making and colours are subtle and gentle - at times almost sepia.
